Award-winning Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has finally revealed why she isn’t married to the father of her daughter, despite maintaining a close and supportive relationship with him.
In an exclusive interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the “Right Now” crooner described her decision as “personal and technical,” noting that marriage is not a priority for her at this stage of life.
“He’s great, he’s cool, he’s around. He’s Nigerian, currently in the UK, and works in the music industry on the corporate side,” she said.
Seyi Shay explained that while they share mutual respect and deep friendship, both are focused on co-parenting with love and raising their daughter in a healthy, peaceful environment.
The singer emphasised that their relationship is built on understanding, maturity, and purpose, rather than societal pressure to formalize it through marriage.
Speaking on motherhood, Seyi Shay said welcoming her daughter in 2022 completely transformed her life, making her more intentional about her career, values, and relationships.
“Motherhood changed everything. I’m more focused on love, growth, and purpose now — not what society expects,” she said.
The Afro-soul star added that she’s in a season of self-discovery and peace, and is grateful for her evolving journey as both an artist and a mother.
