At least seven women were killed on Monday in Adamawa State after soldiers escorting the Brigade Commander of the 23 Brigade, Nigerian Army, allegedly opened fire on protesters in Lamurde Local Government Area. The incident occurred at Rigange Junction, where a group of women had gathered to express frustration over the delayed response of security operatives following deadly attacks on multiple communities by suspected Chobo-speaking militia.
Local sources revealed that 12 women were shot during the confrontation—seven died instantly, while five are receiving treatment at Numan General Hospital. Community leaders described the shooting as shocking and unnecessary, adding that the women were only demanding accountability after the attackers had escaped unchallenged.
The Nigerian Army is yet to issue an official statement, and attempts by reporters to reach the Army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Apollonia Anele, were unsuccessful.
