Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has alleged that recent abductions of schoolchildren in Nigeria carry political undertones aimed at embarrassing the Federal Government. He made this known during a Channels Television programme, 2025 in Retrospect: Charting a Pathway into 2026.
Alausa said Nigeria recorded over 20 months without any school abductions before the recent incidents, describing the renewed attacks as coordinated attempts against national stability. According to him, those behind the kidnappings are seeking to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that the President strongly condemns politicising national security issues.
In recent weeks, at least 24 schoolgirls were abducted from a government secondary school in Kebbi State, while over 200 pupils were kidnapped from a private Catholic school in Niger State. The Federal Government later confirmed the release of all the affected students.
