The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has debunked speculations suggesting that Governor Siminalayi Fubara may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News reports that the state PDP chairman, Robinson Ewor, clarified during an interview with Vanguard that the governor has not communicated any intention to leave the party. He added that while Fubara has the constitutional right to take political decisions in the best interest of Rivers people, no such move has been confirmed.
Speaking on the State House of Assembly’s plan to probe the former sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas (retd.), Ewor maintained that it was within the Assembly’s powers to do so.
“The sole administrator cannot account to the Rivers people. But he can account to the House of Assembly. Rivers people didn’t elect him as their governor. His appointment was unconstitutional and unnecessary. If the House wants to probe him, it is their right. I cannot dictate to them,” Ewor said.
On the peace agreement between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Ewor stressed the need for transparency. He urged both leaders to make the terms of their truce public, insisting that it would serve the overall interest of Rivers people.
The PDP chairman further appealed to all stakeholders to allow the peace accord to endure, describing it as vital for the stability and development of Rivers State.
