The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has warned against what it described as a looming legislative coup amid moves to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Ordu.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the party urged caution, insisting that the impeachment process poses risks to political stability and the APC’s future in the state. The party also called on the Rivers State Chief Judge to obey a court injunction restraining him from acting on resolutions passed by the House of Assembly.
While acknowledging the constitutional powers of lawmakers to impeach a governor, the APC stressed that the definition of “gross misconduct” remains subjective and politically sensitive. It warned that proceeding with the process could deepen divisions within the party and undermine governance.
The APC further appealed to its national leadership to intervene urgently and activate internal dispute-resolution mechanisms to avert an avoidable political crisis in Rivers State.
