Rivers Elders Warn Wike Over Moves Against Fubara Future

Prominent elders in Rivers State have cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against moves they say could undermine Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political future.

Speaking under the State Elders and Leaders Council, former PANDEF spokesperson, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, accused Wike of heightening political tension and attempting to influence who succeeds in the state. He stressed that only Rivers voters have the constitutional right to decide their governor, not any political godfather.

Another elder, Chief Asukewe Iko-Awaji, dismissed claims that Fubara’s political path could be blocked by anyone, insisting that destiny rests with God and the electorate. He described the prolonged political crisis as damaging to governance and warned that Rivers people would remember those responsible for disrupting democratic progress.

The elders urged restraint, dialogue and respect for democratic choice as political activities continue to build in the state.
