Fresh reactions have followed President Bola Tinubu’s reported directive to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT, to persuade Rivers lawmakers to halt impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
Reacting to the development, PANDEF chieftain Anabs Sara-Igbe described the President’s stance as confusing and unfair. He questioned why a sitting governor should be politically subordinated to a serving minister, warning that such an arrangement undermines democratic norms.
Sara-Igbe accused the President of ignoring the root causes of the Rivers crisis, insisting that the people of the state are unhappy with the unfolding political drama. According to him, Nigeria is not under military rule and political authority must respect constitutional order.
He further alleged that Tinubu’s intervention is driven more by political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections than by genuine concern for stability in Rivers State.
Drawing comparisons, Sara-Igbe noted that Wike, as governor, operated independently during the Buhari era, questioning why Governor Fubara is now repeatedly forced to seek presidential intervention.
The comments have added another layer to the growing debate over power, leadership, and political interests in Rivers State.
