The Rivers State Elders and Leaders Council has dismissed the impeachment move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, describing it as self-serving and bound to fail.
The elders accused the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly of hiding behind constitutional claims to pursue personal interests, warning that the action could destabilise Rivers State. Speaking through elder statesman Anabs Sara-Igbe, the council said the plot was embarrassing President Bola Tinubu and insulting the will of Rivers people.
Sara-Igbe insisted the lawmakers were not fighting Governor Fubara but undermining the state’s development. He also criticised the role of political actors allegedly sponsoring the move, warning that continued tension could trigger wider instability.
According to the elders, the impeachment process will eventually collapse, as Rivers people remain firmly behind the governor. They cautioned that further attempts to remove Fubara would only deepen political unrest in the state and beyond.
