The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike after 29 days of disrupted health services across the country. The industrial action, which began on November 1, 2025, forced over 11,000 resident doctors in 91 teaching hospitals to withdraw their services over poor welfare and unpaid allowances.
The decision to halt the strike followed an Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting, where NARD signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government based on seven key conditions. According to NARD Secretary-General, Shuaibu Ibrahim, two of the demands—including release of the Professional Allowance Table and approval of CONMESS 3 entry level—have been met, while the remaining five are expected to be implemented within four weeks.
He warned that the strike would resume if the government defaults on the agreed timeline.
