The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has insisted it will proceed with its planned nationwide strike on January 12, 2026, despite a court order restraining the action.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, NARD President, Dr Mohammad Suleiman, said the strike would go ahead unless the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) decides otherwise. His remarks followed an interim injunction issued by the National Industrial Court in Abuja, barring NARD and two of its officials from embarking on industrial action.
Suleiman accused the Federal Government of acting in bad faith, noting that the doctors had earlier suspended a planned strike in November 2025 after signing a Memorandum of Understanding. He expressed concern over reports of “no work, no pay” directives, describing them as hostile to negotiations.
While reaffirming the strike notice, Suleiman said discussions with government officials were ongoing and expressed hope that the issues could be resolved before the deadline.
