Reps Form Committee To Harmonise Electoral Act Amendment Bill

The House of Representatives has set up a bipartisan conference committee to harmonise differences between the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill versions passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.

Spokesman Akin Rotimi confirmed that the committee, chaired by Rep. Adebayo Balogun, includes key members such as Fred Agbedi, Sada Soli, and Dr. Zainab Gimba. Their task is to reconcile the House’s version with the Senate’s, ensuring a unified and final bill for passage.

The Senate has also formed its committee, chaired by Senator Simon Bako Lalong, with members including Orji Uzor Kalu and Tokunbo Abiru.

This coordinated effort reflects the National Assembly’s commitment to strengthen electoral reforms, enhance transparency, and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process. Lawmakers emphasized that the harmonised bill will improve the legal framework guiding elections, making them more credible and inclusive.

The joint committees are expected to fast-track discussions and present a consensus-driven Electoral Act amendment for final approval, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s electoral reform journey.
