Remi Tinubu Visits Qatar National Library, Says Nigeria’s National Library Will Be a Modern Pride

Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed confidence that the ongoing construction of the National Library of Nigeria in Abuja will, upon completion, stand as a modern, digitized national treasure and a symbol of intellectual pride for the country.

The First Lady made this known on Saturday during her visit to the Qatar National Library in Doha, where she toured the facility as part of efforts to draw inspiration and adopt a working model for Nigeria’s own national library project.

Senator Tinubu highlighted that Nigeria’s rich cultural and historical heritage must be well-documented and preserved for future generations, stressing that the youth should have access to knowledge centers that serve as reference points for understanding the nation’s past and progress.

She commended the Qatar National Library’s motto — “Free Access to Knowledge” — describing it as an ideal philosophy worth replicating in Nigeria. With over two million physical books and 500,000 e-books, the Qatar National Library has become one of the country’s most revered monuments.

Mrs Tinubu’s visit to the library marked her first official engagement in Doha ahead of her scheduled meeting with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, where she is expected to seek strategic partnerships to address the challenges of out-of-school children and Almajiri education in Nigeria.
