Relief in Rivers as Tinubu Ends Emergency Rule: Ibim Semenitari and Wike React

Relief and celebration have greeted the decision of President Bola Tinubu to lift the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State since March 18.

Former Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, expressed excitement while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, describing the development as “a breath of fresh air.”

“It’s a breath of fresh air. As a Rivers State daughter, it feels good to have my state back,” she said. “It is gratifying. I think there’s relief all over Rivers State. The people are happy, and glad that things are hopefully getting back to normal. It didn’t feel good being the only state in the entire federation that didn’t have its democratically elected governor for six months, and I’m sure most Rivers people feel the same way.”

Naija News reports that Tinubu on Wednesday formally ended the emergency rule and reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who had been suspended during the political crisis.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has also hailed Tinubu’s action, describing it as another clear demonstration of the President’s commitment to peace and the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.

In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike praised Tinubu for restoring democratic governance to Rivers State.

According to him, the President’s intervention has restored the confidence of Rivers people in his leadership. Wike further commended citizens of the state for their continued support for Tinubu in his efforts to return Nigeria to the path of peace, progress, and development.

He also urged all stakeholders in Rivers State to work together in harmony for the collective interest of the state and its people.
