A production manager, Anierobi Courage, popularly known as Nwa South, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a Nollywood crew member during the shooting of the movie Lagos to Opulence.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, reportedly took place after the head of makeup, Mary Chizzy Eze, complained about the poor accommodation provided for the crew — where 15 female members were allegedly made to share a single room.
A viral video circulating online shows Courage violently attacking Mary, hitting her and grabbing her by the neck before other crew members intervened.
In a statement released by the Film Crew Community, the assault was described as “violent and animalistic,” calling for Courage’s blacklisting for six months while police investigations continue.
“The production manager violently hit and strangled the makeup H.O.D. for speaking up against ill and unequal treatment among the crew,” the statement read.
The group further condemned the inhumane working conditions on set, calling on producers and guilds to improve welfare and safety measures for crew members across the industry.
Reports confirmed that Courage was arrested, while Mary received medical treatment following the assault.
The Nigerian Film Crew Community (NFCC) also urged filmmakers to take a firm stand against abuse, exploitation, and poor welfare in Nollywood productions.
