Prince Harry made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Friday, aiming to support soldiers injured in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Arriving in Kyiv via an overnight train, Harry was welcomed at the platform by Ukrainian Railways, which shared a video of the moment on social media. “Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex arrived in Kyiv by train to see first-hand the destruction caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion,” the post read.
This visit coincided with the trip of British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, marking her first overseas engagement since assuming her role last week.
Harry was accompanied by a team from his Invictus Games Foundation, which focuses on aiding wounded servicemen. “We cannot stop the war but what we can do is do everything we can to help the recovery process,” he told The Guardian.
During his visit, Harry was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and approximately 200 Ukrainian veterans.
As he prepares to celebrate his 41st birthday on Monday, Harry recently reunited with his father, King Charles III, for the first time in nearly two years during a visit to Britain. Since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to California with his wife Meghan in 2020, Harry has experienced increasing estrangement from the royal family.
