A political strategist, Baba Yusuf, has described the impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as a calculated move allegedly orchestrated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, Yusuf said impeachment actions in Nigeria often stem from deep political disagreements. He argued that the current crisis reflects an intense power struggle between camps loyal to Wike and those backing Governor Fubara.
According to Yusuf, Fubara has been unable to fully exercise his mandate for over three years due to persistent political tensions. He maintained that the impeachment process would not have surfaced if relations between the two leaders were stable.
The strategist described the situation as unfortunate for Rivers State, urging political actors to de-escalate tensions in the interest of governance. He expressed hope that the matter would be resolved swiftly to allow residents of Rivers State to benefit from effective leadership and political stability.
