The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a joint rescue operation involving police tactical units, military forces, and local vigilantes to secure the release of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo, who was abducted on Friday evening in his hometown, Bagudo, Bagudo Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the lawmaker was kidnapped around 8:20 p.m., shortly after observing the Isha’i prayer, by suspected bandits who stormed the town in large numbers.
“The joint team is currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests with a view to rescuing the lawmaker unhurt and arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” Abubakar stated.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to assist security agencies in tracking down the abductors.
As of the time of filing this report, the kidnappers are yet to make any demands, and the Kebbi State Government has not issued an official statement on the incident.
