The Niger State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate operations targeting electricity transformer vandals and motorcycle thieves.
Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrests on Thursday, noting that the operations align with the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman’s directive to eliminate criminal activity across the state.
According to him, on September 1, 2025, operatives of ‘B’ Division in Minna apprehended two transformer vandals — 21-year-old Idris Garba and 28-year-old Saifullahi Alkasim, both residents of Alagbado, Minna. They were caught while attempting to dismantle a transformer. Two of their accomplices escaped. The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
In another case, on August 28, 2025, police operatives in Suleja arrested two suspects — Ilyasu Hassan and Ibrahim Mohammed — while they attempted to sell a stolen Bajaj motorcycle. The suspects confessed that the bike had been stolen from Jere along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. They have been arraigned in court.
Abiodun emphasized that the operations demonstrate the police’s commitment to tackling transformer vandalism, motorcycle theft, and other criminal activities threatening the peace and safety of residents.
