Peter Obi Not Desperate for 2027 Presidency — Obidient Movement Fires Back at ADC Ultimatum

The Obidient Movement has dismissed claims that the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is desperate to become Nigeria’s president in 2027.

This clarification follows the ultimatum issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), directing Obi and other opposition coalition members to resign from their political parties and join ADC.

Naija News reports that ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the resolution after the party’s caucus meeting, stressing that while members were instructed to resign from their parties, no specific deadline was set.

Reacting in Abuja on Friday, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, described ADC’s stance as “bad faith.” He explained that Peter Obi, as a leader with a broad national constituency, always consults widely before making critical political moves.

According to Yunusa, Obi is not desperate for power but is more concerned with issues of zoning, inclusivity, and fairness within the coalition.

He said:

“Our attention has been drawn to the recent statement released by the ADC concerning the resolutions of the Coalition and our role within it. While we remain fully committed to the vision of the Coalition and acknowledge the adoption of ADC as the coalition platform, it is on record that Mr. Peter Obi aligned with the coalition’s position after the Anambra Governorship Election, extending to the 2027 General Elections.

“We are therefore concerned as to why the resolution is now being altered midway into the agreement. As the Obidient Movement, being part of the main consulting bloc, we are particularly concerned about how the party intends to zone its presidential ticket. Considering that the presidency is currently held by the South, equity and fairness must guide such decisions.”

Yunusa added that the zoning of principal offices within the coalition is also of interest to the Obidient Movement, as justice and inclusivity are key to mobilizing effectively across Nigeria.

He stressed that these values of fairness and good governance were the reasons Obi aligned with the coalition initially.

With this, the Obidient Movement has made it clear that Obi is not desperate for power but committed to building a fair and inclusive political future for Nigerians.
