Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has announced that he is taking a short medical break, suspending all his scheduled engagements within and outside Nigeria this weekend.
The announcement was made on Saturday through his official X handle, where he revealed that he took ill while attending a tourism event in Enugu on Friday.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements this weekend. I sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this might cause and humbly plead for understanding,” Obi stated.
Despite his health setback, Obi still managed to visit the Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. There, he donated ₦10 million to support its revitalisation and expansion into a comprehensive healthcare facility.
The project, spearheaded by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, includes plans to establish a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology. Obi praised the initiative, noting that it will greatly enhance healthcare access and development in the region.
The brief health scare has sparked conversations online, with supporters expressing concern while applauding his continued commitment to healthcare improvement even while unwell.
