Peter Obi Blasts Adamawa LG Bosses Over Sponsorship of Wives’ Trip to Turkey

The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the alleged sponsorship of 21 local government chairmen’s wives in Adamawa State on a trip to Turkey using public funds under the guise of leadership training.

Obi, in a statement posted on his verified X handle on Friday, described the development as a clear case of waste and a mockery of governance.

He expressed disappointment that while public funds were being spent on frivolous ventures, millions of Nigerian children at the basic education level either remain out of school or lack access to proper classrooms and teachers.

“I have just read the disturbing report that the wives of 21 local government chairmen in Adamawa State were sponsored with public funds to travel to Turkey under the guise of leadership training,” Obi wrote.

He further stressed that local government funds are meant for the welfare of the people, particularly ordinary Nigerians such as traders, farmers, teachers, and pensioners who depend on government support for basic amenities.

Obi cautioned that diverting funds to irrelevant purposes amounts to abuse of office and should never be tolerated.

“This is not only a glaring case of waste but a mockery of the very essence of governance,” he added.

The report has stirred widespread debate, with many Nigerians questioning the priority of public officials at a time when the country battles economic hardship and deteriorating education infrastructure
