PDP’s Path to Forgiving Wike: Bode George

The former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bode George, has indicated that the reintegration of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, into the party may require a minimum of four years unless the National Executive Committee intervenes.

Trendgoss News reports that George revealed this in an interview with Daily Independent published on Sunday. He emphasized that the expulsion of Wike, as well as former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and others, was a legitimate decision made at the PDP national convention held on Saturday in Ibadan.

It should be noted that George initiated the motion for their expulsion, which was supported by Samaila Buga, the Bauchi State PDP Chairman.

The PDP leader argued that the decision, having been ratified by the party’s highest decision-making body, could only be overturned by another national convention, which occurs every four years.

George asserted, “Wike must be dreaming if he thinks he can nullify the convention we had in Ibadan. This party was founded on justice, fairness and equity. He crossed the rubicon, and we have tolerated him enough.”

He criticized Wike for openly supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 ambitions while still holding membership within the PDP.

“Perpetually, he keeps saying he will work for Bola Tinubu in 2027 and yet he is still a member of the PDP. Does that make any sense? We don’t want a person with a lukewarm attitude in our party,” George remarked.

Despite his firm stance, George acknowledged that Wike and other expelled members could be reconsidered if they show genuine remorse and seek reconciliation.

He stated, “If they retrace their steps, apologise and beg to be accepted into the fold, why not?”

However, he emphasized that because the expulsion decision was approved at the convention, readmission is not automatic.

“Because that decision was taken at the highest body of the party, it will take another four years to reconsider whether they will likely be accepted. But if we see genuineness in their behaviour, the NEC can reconsider them,” he added.
