Dan Ulasi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged the party to ensure fairness in the zoning of its presidential ticket for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ulasi emphasized that the South-East region deserves the presidential slot.
According to Ulasi, while the PDP has already zoned the presidency to the South, it is essential to further micro-zone it to the South-East, which has yet to produce a president since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. He stated, “The party has zoned the presidency to the South. Yes, and if there is honesty, they should micro-zone it to the South-East, because virtually now we are the only zone, theoretically speaking, that have not had a presidency in this very dispensation.”
Ulasi highlighted the party’s efforts to reposition itself ahead of the elections, noting that the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting saw the attendance of at least seven PDP governors. He described this as a positive sign of unity within the party. “It was refreshing that everybody is now talking about how to reorganize the party, put it in a stronger footing for 2027, and other subsequent elections that are coming,” he added.
However, Ulasi cautioned that the party’s ultimate success in the elections is in divine hands. “Only God will answer that your question to say whether PDP will make the presidency in 2027. Only God knows who will be alive tomorrow morning. We have hope or desires to want to do something, if God wills,” he stressed.
