The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a firm warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying no external body has the power to impose leadership on the party.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP faulted INEC for engaging individuals it described as former members claiming to represent a so-called National Caretaker Committee linked to the Wike faction. According to the party, such a body is not recognised by its constitution.
The PDP cautioned that INEC’s actions could heighten political tension, especially with leadership cases still pending before the Court of Appeal. It stressed that an impartial umpire should exercise restraint until the courts reach final decisions.
Reassuring members nationwide, the party urged calm and confidence in the legal process, insisting that PDP leadership matters remain an internal affair. It reaffirmed that the party’s Rebirth Movement is intact under Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and expressed optimism about emerging stronger and more united.
The PDP also positioned itself as a credible alternative, pledging to address national challenges facing Nigerians.
