Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has raised alarms over a potential crisis brewing within the Lagos State chapter of the party. This warning comes as preparations for the party’s ward and local government congresses intensify across the state.
George expressed his concerns in an open letter addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC), which was made available to journalists on Thursday. He accused the Deputy National Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Setonji Koshoedo, of unilaterally managing the distribution of congress nomination forms.
According to George, Koshoedo’s actions were taken without consulting party leaders in Lagos, undermining ongoing efforts by senior stakeholders to build consensus across local governments. He described this move as “a recipe for acrimony, mayhem, and potential court cases” if not addressed.
“It is disturbing that Hon. Koshoedo, who has not been involved in the activities of the party in Lagos, either financially or otherwise, collected the forms,” George stated. “He then single-handedly decided how they would be distributed,” he added.
George further alleged that some nomination forms were handed to individuals who had defected to opposition parties, including the ADC, while loyal PDP leaders, including two life-members of the Board of Trustees, were sidelined.
“Does Koshoedo’s position as a member of the NWC give him the right to appoint leaders in Lagos at his own discretion?” George questioned.
The former Deputy National Chairman warned that the state chapter, still recovering from past internal disputes, could not afford another crisis. He characterized Koshoedo’s conduct as “insulting, unfair, unjust, and unacceptable,” stressing that continued interference could deepen divisions.
“We are forced to declare him a political persona non grata in Lagos due to his actions. We appeal to the NWC to intervene urgently before this matter escalates,” George concluded.
