Former Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has applauded the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Trendgoss News reports that during its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, the PDP expelled Wike and suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose.
Reacting to the development, Aliyu stated that the PDP has eliminated what he described as a ‘cancer’ that has been crippling the party.
He made these remarks in Abuja at the 6th Zik’s Awards Lecture, held to commemorate the 121st posthumous birthday of the late Nnamdi Azikiwe.
The former governor expressed optimism that the party could progress following the expulsion of Wike and his allies.
Aliyu said, “Like surgeons, we remove a cancer, the cancer that has been part of our party, that has crippled the party.”
“We hope that with the removal of the cancer, the party may be able to move and give Nigerians an option on what to do.”
He also cautioned against the formation of a one-party state in Nigeria, warning of its severe consequences.
“If we make the mistake of creating a one-party state in Nigeria, we will pay for it. So, it’s good that we give an alternative to the Nigerian populace,” he added.
