PDP Disbands Structures in Five States

PDP Dissolves State Structures

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially dissolved its party structures in the states of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers. This decision was announced at the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The motion for this dissolution was moved by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, aiming to validate the executives elected through congresses conducted nationwide. These congresses took place between 2024 and 2025, resulting in the election of officers at various levels, including ward, local government, state, zonal, and national ex-officio members.

Governor Makinde emphasized that the exercises were conducted peacefully and in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and the party’s internal regulations. He also noted that both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) had previously endorsed the congresses and the officials elected.

Despite these endorsements, the party has decided to disband the existing structures in the aforementioned states. Governor Makinde stated, “In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers, the convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government, and state levels.”

He further announced that the convention has authorized the publication of this decision as a formal notice to the public. The motion was seconded by Daniel Okechukwu, the National Auditor and member of the NWC, at the convention ground.
