A Cessna 172 aircraft operated by Skypower Express crash-landed on Tuesday night at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, Imo State. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed the incident, stating that all four occupants on board were rescued alive and rushed to the hospital.
The aircraft, with registration number 5N-ASR, was en route from Kaduna to Port Harcourt when the crew declared an in-flight emergency and diverted to Owerri. The accident reportedly occurred around 8:00 pm during approach to Runway 17, where the aircraft somersaulted after landing.
NSIB said airport emergency services responded immediately, with no fire outbreak recorded and no disruption to flight operations. Investigation protocols have since been activated to determine the cause of the Owerri aircraft crash involving the Cessna 172.
