Outrage as Abuja Businesswoman Receives ₦50,000 Bill for Using Her Own TV and Services

An Abuja-based entrepreneur, Bingel Bamba’am, has ignited massive reactions online after revealing that she was billed ₦50,000 for using her television and other in-house services.

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Bingel expressed disbelief over the demand notice, questioning why she should pay for watching her own TV powered by her electricity and paid satellite subscription.

She wrote:

“We got a letter today demanding we pay for using TV and other services, and this is the craziest thing I have come across. We should pay for watching our own TV with our electricity and satellite subscription?”

The post quickly went viral, sparking debates among Nigerians who shared mixed views on the issue.

One user, Grace, commented, “Something Lagos people have been paying since — radio and television. Welcome to the emilokan era.”

Another, Happy Dude, justified the levy, stating, “This is done in developed countries; these are the things that make them what they are.”

However, others like Uncle Ebizi condemned the development, sharing his own letter demanding ₦200,000, lamenting that the AMAC and FCTA policies in Abuja stifle business growth.

As the debate grows, many residents are calling for clarity and fairness in such regulatory charges imposed on private citizens and businesses.
