Otti Speaks: I’m Staying in Labour Party Despite Obi’s Exit

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has firmly ruled out defecting from the Labour Party, declaring that he remains loyal to the platform that brought him to power. The governor made the clarification on Tuesday during his monthly media chat in Umuahia, amid growing speculation following Peter Obi’s decision to leave the party.

Otti revealed that Obi personally informed him of his intention to exit the Labour Party and that he gave his blessings. However, he stressed that his political journey is independent of Obi’s move, noting that he joined the Labour Party before the former Anambra governor.

According to Otti, his decision to remain is driven by responsibility and commitment to rebuilding the party. He said the Labour Party deserves his loyalty, having provided the platform for his emergence as governor.

The Abia governor added that discussions about alternative political options would only arise after sincere efforts to reposition the party have been exhausted, insisting that for now, defection is not on the table.
