Osun State Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, announced on Friday that the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife Federal Constituency has been successfully resolved.
Adewusi made this declaration following a stakeholders’ reconciliation meeting held at his residence in Ile-Ife, where party leaders reached an agreement to set aside their differences and work together for the party’s success.
The conflict began on September 1, when PDP leaders in the constituency passed a vote of no confidence against Adewusi, former PDP National Secretary Wale Oladipo, and Ife East PDP Chairman Olasunkanmi Makinde. They were accused of engaging in anti-party activities and maintaining ties with former House of Representatives member Bimbo Ajilesoro, who had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A communiqué signed by 39 PDP leaders, including Commissioners Biyi Odunlade (Political Affairs) and Dipo Eluwole (Education), condemned Ajilesoro’s defection and expressed disappointment over ongoing associations with him.
Sources within the party suggested that the feud was fueled by speculation regarding Governor Ademola Adeleke’s potential decision to replace Adewusi with another indigene from Ife ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Addressing journalists, Adewusi dismissed concerns about division within the party, stating, “We have forgotten the past and turned a new leaf. PDP is one, there is no division. Even the tongue and mouth disagree sometimes, but today everything has been resolved. It’s a storm in a teacup.”
He emphasized that the reconciliation process had the support of the senatorial chairman and other stakeholders, asserting, “The Devil wanted to play his game, but we won’t allow him.”
Olayiwola Famuyide, a leader of the Osun East Central District PDP, commended Governor Adeleke for his role in facilitating peace among the aggrieved factions.
During a separate reconciliation meeting attended by Adewusi, Deputy Senate Minority Leader Lere Oyewumi, State PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, and Commissioners’ Forum Chairman Ganiyu Olaoluwa, Governor Adeleke attributed the conflict to communication gaps. He urged party leaders to unite and concentrate on achieving victory in upcoming elections.
