Osun Govt Imposes 24-Hour Curfew in Igbajo After Violent Clash

The Osun State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Igbajo following a violent clash over passage rites for the late Oba Adegboyega Famodun, the Owa of Igbajo. Tension erupted after traditionalists attempted to begin burial rites requiring the closure of the town market, but supporters of Oba Ademola Makinde, another claimant to the throne, reportedly resisted, leading to chaos in the early hours of Monday.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement through Commissioner Kolapo Alimi, expressed shock over the breakdown of order and directed a total lockdown to prevent further violence. Security agencies including the Army, Police, DSS, and NSCDC have been deployed for 24-hour surveillance. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and extended condolences to the family of the late Oba Famodun.
