Osun Amotekun Nabs Nine Suspects in Major Crime Crackdown

The Osun State Security Network Agency, widely known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested nine individuals for various crimes, including livestock theft, burglary, and sexual offenses.

According to the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, the arrests were confirmed in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, on Thursday in Osogbo.

In Oriade Local Government Area, a 56-year-old man, Ayo Akinpelu, was apprehended for stealing two goats in Ipetu-Ijesa. Residents reported his suspicious activities, leading to his interception by the Amotekun command.

Akinpelu was found with the stolen goats hidden inside his Lexus SUV. Community members insisted on inspecting the vehicle before Amotekun operatives took him into custody. During questioning, Akinpelu admitted to being involved in goat theft for the past seven years. He is an ex-convict who had previously served time for a similar offense.

He confessed that he uses salt to calm the goats during theft and that he uses the animals for pepper soup in his Ondo town beer parlour. He also admitted to frequently traveling to Osun communities to steal goats.

In a separate incident in Olaoluwa Local Government Area, Amotekun operatives arrested two men, 30-year-old Sodiq Adeshina and 25-year-old Kareem Marouf, for burglary at an uncompleted building in Oluponna town. The suspects were caught stealing electrical appliances and cables valued at over N450,000, which they intended to sell to a buyer in Iwo.

The statement noted that both suspects confessed to the crime after being apprehended based on intelligence reports.

In another case, 26-year-old Elijah Olawale of Ijebu-Ijesha town, Oriade LGA, was arrested following complaints by his wife that he sexually abused their nine-year-old daughter. Olawale reportedly confessed to raping the child three years ago and recently.

Additionally, 26-year-old ThankGod Friday, a Modakeke-based laborer from Akwa-Ibom State, was arrested for allegedly raping his employer’s 12-year-old daughter on two occasions. Adeleke Sodiq, aged 60, from Ode-omu, was also apprehended for raping a six-year-old toddler. Reports indicated that he lured the child with money and admitted to the crime, claiming it was his first offense.

On September 8, 2025, Amotekun announced the arrest of three men – 22-year-old Ayo Akanni, 18-year-old Bamiwo Sogo, and 18-year-old Bamiwo Israel – in Ilesa for multiple burglaries at Atakunmosa Market. The suspects reportedly led operatives to a hideout where electronics, household items, building materials, and provisions worth millions of Naira were recovered.

Reacting to the series of arrests, Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to public safety and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities.

“We remain resolute in securing lives and property. Criminals have no hiding place; all suspects will face prosecution,” he stated.

All nine suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned after the conclusion of investigations.
