OpenAI Unveils Game-Changing ChatGPT Update

Tech giant OpenAI has announced a groundbreaking new feature for ChatGPT, enabling the popular generative AI model to interact directly with everyday apps such as Spotify and Booking.com.

The update, revealed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Monday, October 6, during the company’s annual Developer Day, marks one of the biggest expansions of ChatGPT’s capabilities since its initial launch.

The new tool, known as the Apps SDK, allows ChatGPT to seamlessly perform real-world tasks like selecting music, searching for real estate, or booking flights and hotels, all within the chat interface.

“This is a major step toward making ChatGPT not just a conversational tool but a truly interactive digital assistant,” Altman said while addressing an enthusiastic audience of developers.

At launch, OpenAI partnered with major platforms including Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow. These integrations are already live in regions where their services operate. Additional partners such as Uber, AllTrails, and DoorDash are expected to join later this year.

However, the company confirmed that the feature is not yet available in Europe, citing the continent’s stricter data and privacy regulations that affect the deployment of advanced AI tools.

This latest development represents a significant leap in AI interactivity, combining natural conversation with real-time actions. With the Apps SDK, users can now make requests like:

“Spotify, make a playlist for my party this Friday,”
and the app will automatically create and play the playlist within ChatGPT.

The AI will also have proactive assistance capabilities. For instance, if a user mentions wanting to buy a new house, ChatGPT can automatically pull up listings from Zillow that match their budget and preferences—displaying them on an interactive map inside the chat.

The integration signals OpenAI’s ambition to make ChatGPT an all-in-one intelligent assistant, bridging the gap between conversation and real-world functionality. With over 800 million weekly users, this update could redefine how people interact with digital tools globally.
