The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three foreign nationals over alleged human trafficking and visa fraud in Akure, the state capital. The suspects include a 30-year-old Togolese man, John Apiah, and two female accomplices, Blessings Assiah, 22, and Laro Larisa, 21.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Abayomi said the suspects were arrested in the Oda area of Akure South following intelligence reports. Investigations revealed that the victims were lured into Nigeria with promises of international passports and American visas.
The victims were reportedly extorted of 1.6 million CFA before being held in an apartment under suspicious conditions. They were later rescued by police operatives.
Abayomi said the Commissioner of Police warned landlords to properly screen tenants, stressing that negligence could expose property owners to legal action. The police assured residents of sustained efforts to clamp down on trafficking and related crimes across the state.
