The Ondo State Police Command has announced a strict ban on the sale and use of fireworks during the 2025 Yuletide season. Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the decision follows ongoing security reviews amid rising reports of false alarms and staged kidnapping schemes aimed at extortion.
Lawal explained that fireworks can create panic and provide cover for criminal activities. He ordered intensified patrols, intelligence-driven raids on black spots, and the deployment of undercover operatives for early threat detection.
The CP assured residents and travellers of a safe festive period, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
