The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of four suspected members of a kidnapping gang linked to recent attacks in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed that the operation followed credible intelligence and swift action by vigilant community members. One suspect, Abenaguna Muhammad, was first apprehended by residents and found with suspected criminal charms before being handed over to the police.
Further interrogation exposed a wider network. The suspect reportedly confessed to belonging to a kidnapping syndicate operating along the Ala–Ilu-Abo axis. This led to the arrest of three other suspects identified as Lanre, popularly called “Lanre Tomato,” Ojo, and Pius.
The arrests are connected to a January 25, 2026 attack in Ilu-Abo where gunmen shot one resident, abducted another, and injured two others. Police say intensified surveillance in the area helped track the suspects.
All four suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue as police move to dismantle the entire network and restore calm.
