Residents of Obe Nla, Obe Adun and Obe Jedo communities in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday protested the alleged delay in releasing a N400 million relief fund approved for victims of recent violence in the area.
The protesters locked the gate of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) headquarters in Akure, insisting that months after the incident, victims were still without support. They claimed the fund, approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and reportedly released to OSOPADEC in November 2025, had not reached verified beneficiaries.
Community leaders accused operatives of the Nigerian Navy of attacks that led to deaths, destruction of property and loss of livelihoods, worsening hardship in the area. They demanded immediate disbursement of the funds, transparency in handling the money and urgent government intervention.
OSOPADEC officials appealed for calm, saying verification was ongoing to ensure only genuine victims benefit from the relief package.
