In a refreshingly candid revelation, Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has opened up about his first-ever Grammy nomination, expressing a mix of gratitude and striking indifference towards the prestigious award.
The ‘Reason’ crooner earned a nomination for his collaboration with music superstar Davido on the hit track “With You,” which is contending for the Best African Music Performance category at the upcoming 68th Grammy Awards.
Sharing his thoughts via his official Instagram fan platform, Omah Lay expressed excitement over the recognition but was quick to state that awards do not define his musical journey. He emphasized that his primary focus remains on creating meaningful music that resonates deeply with his audience, beyond the pursuit of trophies or public validation.
In a heartfelt twist, the singer redirected the spotlight onto his collaborator and mentor, Davido. He showered praises on ‘OBO’, revealing that Davido has been a pillar of support during difficult times in his life.
Omah Lay stated that while he personally doesn’t care much for awards, he genuinely hopes Davido wins this one, describing him as “the realest friend I’ve had in a while.” This nomination marks Davido’s fourth Grammy nod, as fans globally hope this will be his long-awaited victory.
