The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, of setting him up through his former Canadian wife in a bid to conceal his alleged role in Ooni’s emergence as monarch.
In a video shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Oba Akanbi alleged that the Ooni orchestrated the setup to silence him and prevent him from exposing details of his involvement in Ogunwusi’s ascension to the throne.
Oluwo Speaks on Alleged Set-Up
According to the Oluwo, a woman was “packaged” for him from Canada under the guise of marriage, but the real intention was to entrap him.
“I helped Ooni Adeyeye, but because he is holding to the Orisas (deities) and God has placed me above them, he was seeking my downfall. The next thing, he packaged a woman for me. They were setting me up with videos, and she even poisoned me twice,” Oba Akanbi claimed.
The monarch further stated that the woman, who later became his wife, had a child during their time together, but he now questions the paternity and insists on conducting a DNA test.
“She Was Linked to Ooni” — Oluwo
Oba Akanbi alleged that the woman maintained close contact with Ooni during their marriage, accusing the monarch of renting an apartment for her and the child.
“After I kicked her out of my house, ask Ooni what the woman was doing with him in the hotel? He’s the one that rented an apartment for her,” he alleged.
On His Position and Yoruba Deities
The Oluwo stressed that no Yoruba deity such as Sango (god of thunder) or Ogun (god of iron) could harm him, declaring that they are forefathers, not criminals.
He also dismissed talks of suspension by the Ooni, insisting that no paramount ruler could suspend another.
“Can Ooni suspend me as a paramount ruler? Is he older or greater than me in position? Even in Osun, they cannot place us all on the same level, but he cannot suspend me,” he added.
This latest claim adds to the long history of tension and public verbal exchanges between the two monarchs.
