Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has apologised to fans after his early red card proved decisive in a crushing 5–1 Serie A defeat to Fiorentina. The Nigerian international was sent off in the eighth minute for a reckless challenge on Moise Kean, leaving Udinese to battle with 10 men for most of the contest.
Fiorentina quickly took control, with Rolando Mandragora opening the scoring before goals from Albert Guðmundsson and Cher Ndour sealed the game before half-time. Kean added two more after the break, while Oumar Solet grabbed a consolation for Udinese.
Okoye took responsibility after the match, posting a brief apology to supporters. The dismissal could see him suspended for up to three matches, including Udinese’s clash with Lazio, compounding a difficult period for both club and country.
