NYSC Warns Corps Members on Legal Conduct

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a strong warning to corps members nationwide against taking the law into their own hands during or after their service year.

Umoren Kufre, the Bauchi State Coordinator of the NYSC, delivered this cautionary message on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members, held at the permanent orientation camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

“I urge you to obey all rules and regulations guiding the NYSC. If you observe any irregularity, do not take the laws into your hands. Always use the appropriate channels of communication to express your grievances. Let me assure you that management will provide the basic amenities you require in camp. Your safety and comfort remain our utmost priority,” he stated.

Kufre revealed that 2,050 corps members have been deployed to the state for the one-year mandatory service. He noted that the orientation exercise has so far faced no major challenges, with participants actively engaging in camp activities.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his ongoing support of the scheme, highlighting the renovation of corps members’ hostels and the construction of a new multipurpose hall in the camp. He also appealed for the reconstruction of a section of the perimeter fence that collapsed about a year ago.

In declaring the orientation programme open, Governor Bala Mohammed called on corps members to become champions of national development and transformation. Represented by State Head of Service Mohammed Umar, the governor advised corps members to take their call to service seriously and commit to the NYSC’s objectives of unity and national growth.

Justice Rabi Umar, represented by Abdullahi Yau, Deputy Registrar of the High Court of Justice, administered the oath of allegiance, encouraging corps members to maintain law and order throughout the orientation period.
