Northern Grumbling Could Threaten Tinubu’s 2027 Chances, Ndume Warns

Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume has cautioned that growing dissatisfaction in northern Nigeria could negatively impact President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections if not addressed. Speaking on ARISE News, Ndume clarified that Tinubu himself is not the problem, but his inner circle lacks political insight and grassroots connection.

Ndume explained that northern leaders have attempted constructive engagement with the President, including meetings with critical northern appointees. While Tinubu initially showed commitment, the engagement process stalled, leaving northern concerns unresolved.

The lawmaker criticised presidential aides for elitism and isolation, noting that many are detached from national realities and lack local political experience. He contrasted this with Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos Governor, when he was surrounded by capable advisers.

Ndume warned that the growing northern grumbling, if ignored, could reflect in the 2027 vote. He urged immediate action to reconnect with the north and strengthen Tinubu’s political team to prevent electoral consequences.
