Northern Governors Slam Niger Market Attack, Mourn Yobe Boat Tragedy

The Northern States Governors Forum has strongly condemned the deadly bandit attack on a market in Niger State, describing it as a brutal assault on innocent citizens and a grave threat to regional peace and commerce.

In a statement issued by the forum’s chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the governors expressed deep concern over the attack, which reportedly claimed dozens of lives and led to abductions. They urged security agencies to intensify operations to apprehend those responsible and restore confidence in affected communities.

The forum also extended heartfelt condolences to families of victims of a separate boat mishap in Yobe State, where at least 25 people lost their lives and others remain missing. The governors described the incident as tragic and avoidable, calling for stricter enforcement of water transportation safety measures.

Reaffirming their commitment to security and safety, the governors pledged continued collaboration with federal authorities to strengthen emergency response and security across northern Nigeria.
