NNPC Reveals Plan to Revive Nigeria’s Refineries

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is taking bold steps to get the nation’s refineries fully operational. CEO Bayo Ojulari emphasized that success hinges on three key pillars: robust financing, hiring competent EPC contractors, and ensuring world-class operational capacity.

Speaking at the Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja, Ojulari explained that NNPC is now engaging with partners experienced in refining and petrochemical operations to build sustainable, profitable solutions. The focus has shifted from just financing and construction to creating the right operating model for long-term efficiency.

He also highlighted that efforts to reduce crude oil theft, improve upstream collaborations, and leverage AI-enabled surveillance have stabilized operations. Targeted Corporate Social Responsibility programs are strengthening relations with host communities, ensuring a more secure and productive energy sector.

With these strategies, NNPC aims not only to restart the refineries but also to ensure sustained profitability, positioning Nigeria as a stronger player in the global oil and gas industry.
