Nnamdi Kanu to Call Witnesses from US, Kenya, and Ethiopia in Ongoing Trial

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed that some of his witnesses in his ongoing trial will be coming from Ethiopia, Kenya, and the United States.

Kanu made this known before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday.

This revelation followed a motion Kanu filed on October 21, in which he listed 23 witnesses — both Nigerians and foreigners — he intends to call to testify in his defence.

According to the motion personally signed by Kanu, the witnesses are divided into two categories.

The first group, he said, are “ordinary but material witnesses,” while the second category are “vital and compellable witnesses” who will be summoned under Section 232 of the Evidence Act, 2011.

He also prayed the court to grant him a 90-day timeframe to allow for the completion of his defence, given the number and diversity of witnesses.

Interestingly, after submitting the motion, Kanu disengaged his defence lawyers and opted to represent himself in the ongoing proceedings.
