NMA Declares Nnamdi Kanu Fit to Stand Trial — Court Sets 6 Days for Defence

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has confirmed that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is medically fit to continue his trial on terrorism-related charges.

The confirmation was made before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, where the NMA stated that Kanu’s health condition was not life-threatening.

According to the medical report submitted to the court on October 13 by the prosecution team led by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), the medical panel — set up by the NMA President — concluded that Kanu’s illness does not pose any immediate danger to his life.

Justice James Omotosho, who had earlier directed the NMA to conduct an independent health assessment following conflicting reports from both the defence and prosecution, ruled that the IPOB leader is fit to stand trial.

With no objections from the defence or prosecution, the court ordered that Nnamdi Kanu should open and close his defence within six consecutive days, beginning from October 23.

The ruling marks a major development in the long-running legal battle between the Federal Government and the IPOB leader.
