Nigerian social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has stirred nationwide debate after declaring that education—especially in Northern Nigeria—is the only lasting solution to terrorism.
In a video posted on Facebook, VDM argued that most individuals drawn into terrorism are uneducated youths, often manipulated by a small group of educated elites. He claimed that investing heavily in basic and compulsory education in the North would reduce the pool of young men lured into extremist activities.
VDM urged political leaders to dedicate at least four years of an administration to enforcing education, insisting that knowledge would pull young people out of insecurity-prone environments.
He warned that failure to address the education gap could worsen Nigeria’s security situation in the coming years.
