In a provocative and nuanced analysis, Pastor Emmanuel Iren has weighed in on the heated national conversation about Nigeria’s security, making the bold claim that the country’s security infrastructure is “actually one of the best in the world.”
His comments arrive amidst international scrutiny, including the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian persecution, a claim the Federal Government has consistently denied.
Pastor Iren, however, presented a critical social perspective on the issue. He argued that the effectiveness of Nigeria’s security network is not a question of capability, but one of accessibility and priority, which is heavily influenced by an individual’s social and financial standing.
“I think, personal opinion, our security infrastructure is actually one of the best in the world,” the cleric stated. “Let me land and you will agree with me. Be a rich person in trouble. Drop money and see, they will bring the thief for you, am I lying?”
He concluded that the core problem is the uneven distribution of justice and attention. “So maybe the problem is, where the wickedness is happening, the voices there are poor. Maybe it doesn’t matter much to us as much as we pretend,” Iren suggested, implying that violence persists in certain areas because the affected communities are marginalized and their pleas are ignored.
