Nigeria’s crude oil production has recorded a significant boost, hitting an average of 1.71 million barrels of oil per day (bopd) in July 2025, according to fresh data released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The figures show that Nigeria pumped 1.507 million bopd of crude oil and 204,864 bopd of condensates during the period. This marks a 9.9% year-on-year increase compared to July 2024 when output stood at 1.56 million bopd.
On a month-on-month basis, production also climbed by 0.89%, rising from 1.69 million bopd recorded in June 2025.
Breakdown by Oil Terminals (July 2025):
- Forcados Terminal: 9.04 million barrels (↑ 2.1% from June)
- Bonny Terminal: 8.07 million barrels (↑ 12.7%)
- Qua Iboe Terminal: 4.55 million barrels (↓ from 5.08m in June)
- Escravos Terminal: 4.47 million barrels (↑ 7.1%)
- Bonga Terminal: 3.68 million barrels (↑ 4.2%)
- Odudu (Amenam Blend): 2.12 million barrels (↑ 2.9%)
- Tulja-Okwuibome Terminal: 2.08 million barrels (↑ 2.8%)
- Brass Terminal: 1.12 million barrels (↑ 27%)
Nigeria’s 2025 federal budget was based on a production target of 2.06 million bopd and an oil benchmark price of $75 per barrel. Although the target has yet to be reached due to persistent crude theft and insecurity in the Niger Delta, the recent rise signals improving output stability.
At the Africa Chiefs of Defence Staff Conference in Abuja, NNPC GCEO Bayo Ojulari disclosed that international and continental cartels had been exploiting security gaps to steal crude from Nigeria. He, however, noted that pipeline vandalism and crude theft have reduced significantly, thanks to improved collaboration among security agencies.
“Today, I can proudly report that our pipelines and terminals’ receipt of crude oil, which once hovered between 20% to 30%, are now approaching close to 100%, due to the efforts of our security forces and intelligence agencies,” Ojulari said.
He emphasized that security remains a critical pillar of Nigeria’s energy sector, noting that stability in oil infrastructure is vital for achieving both national and continental energy security goals.
